In addition to Solatube and Solarstar, we are pleased to offer these additional services.

New England Sola Concepts, Inc. offers roof services!

Our goal is to not only do an incredible job on every installation, but also make sure that our customers have peace of mind knowing that we care about them not only now, but in the future! On every Solatube Daylighting Systems or Solar Star installation we do a free visual roof inspection, looking for any potential leaks or roof problems that might exist. If we see any areas of concern, we will advise you of our findings and provide you with a no obligation estimate for the repair. In many cases, the repair can be completed while we are on site.

PIPE COLLARS

What are pipe collars and why should I get them replaced?

Pipe collars are the protective collars around plumbing pipes that penetrate through your roof. When pipe collars fail, it is usually due to deterioration of the rubber boot (or pipe collar) around the pipe. This boot prevents water from entering on either side of the collar. Failures of rubber collar boots usually show as either splits in the rubber or deterioration of the rubber boot over time. If you have water entering your home from a broken, cracked, or worn out pipe collar it is best to have the pipe collar replaced, because caulk is only a temporary fix and will wear away quickly.

How do I know if my pipe collars need to be replaced?

One of the indications of leaking or cracked pipe collars are water stains on the ceiling. If you encounter this problem, check the most obvious cause, which would be failing plumbing in a bathroom or water closet. Once it has been determined that the plumbing is not the problem, then have New England Sola Concepts, Inc. check your plumbing vent collars (pipe collars). A cracked or damaged collar can allow water to enter around the outside of the plumbing pipe. From there water will usually follow the plumbing pipes until the pipe makes a bend or hits an elbow in the pipe, then drip onto the ceiling or floorboards.

My roof isn’t leaking. Why would I need to replace my pipe collars?

It may take an extended period of time for a leaking pipe collar to cause enough damage to affect your ceiling. Often, the leaking pipe collar causes damage to the roof decking (the wood structure that supports the roof). A slow leak over time can cause a significant amount of damage. By waiting until a leaking pipe collar shows on your ceiling, you may have damage to your roof decking that is both expensive and time consuming to repair.

How often should I have my pipe collars replaced?

We recommend that you have your pipe collars inspected approximately every seven years. Replacement should be done as the pipe collars begin to show signs of cracking or wear. Replacing a pipe collar is certainly significantly cheaper than a major roof repair.

New England Sola Concepts, Inc. always does a thorough inspection to make sure the pipe collar is installed and sealed properly. Please feel free to contact us at (888) 999-7652 if we can be of any assistance.

What does New England Sola Concepts, Inc. do?

If we see a pipe collar that is cracked or failing, we check the condition of the pipe collar and notify the customer of the severity of the existing or potential leak. Because pipe collars are the most common and least known of all roof leaks, we always carry a supply pipe collars in our trucks! With your approval, we will remove the old pipe collar, install a new one, and, if requested, show the condition of the failed pipe collar and where it was cracked or damaged. With every pipe collar replacement we offer a 1 year labor warranty on workmanship!

How much does it cost?

If we are at your home already, doing a Solatube or Solar Star installation, we charge $125.00 for the first pipe collar and $110.00 for every additional pipe collar.

If you require a service call to inspect your pipe collars, there is a service call fee of $85.00. If any pipe collars require replacement, we charge $150.00 for the first pipe collar and $80.00 for every additional pipe collar. If you have the pipe collars replaced at the time of the service call, the cost of the service call will be waived.

We value your business and take pride in offering cost effective, efficient solutions for any cracked pipe collar and all of your roofing repair needs!
